The Eternals is an American superhero film based on Marvel comics produced by Marvel Studios and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. The 26th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The film is directed by Chloe Zhao, who also wrote the screenplay with Patrick Burley and Ryan and Kaz Firpo ru en. Starring Gemma Chan, Richard Madden, Kumail Nanjiani, Leah McHugh, Brian Tyree Henry, Lauren Ridloff, Barry Keoghan, Don Lee, Harish Patel ru en, Kit Harington, Salma Hayek and Angelina Jolie. According to the plot of the film, the Eternals, an immortal alien race, emerge from the shadows thousands of years later to protect the Earth from their evil counterparts, the Deviants.

The film had its world premiere on October 18 2021 in Los Angeles. The film was released in the United States on November 5, 2021, in Russia on November 8, and became part of the Fourth Phase of the MCU. The film grossed over $402 million at the box office, becoming the 10th highest-grossing film of 2021, and received mixed reviews from critics, who praised the visuals, themes and acting, but criticized the films exposition, storytelling pace, and timing.

Plot

In 5000 B.C. e. ten powerful Eternals - Ayak, Sersi, Ikaris Kingo, Sprite, Fastos, Makkari, Druig, Gilgamesh and Fina - were sent by Celestial Arishem to Earth to destroy the aggressive race of Deviants. For millennia, they have protected humanity from the Deviants, but they have been forbidden to interfere in human conflicts. The Eternals, it seemed to them, killed the last Deviants in 1521. However, their opinions about responsibility to humanity diverged. For the next five hundred years, the Eternals largely lived apart from one another, awaiting the return of Arishem.

Filming

Production on the film began in July 2019 at Pinewood Studios in Buckinghamshire, England. The director of photography was Ben Davis, who had previously worked on several other MCU films. Zhao said that Marvel Studios gave her the creative freedom to shoot on location, exactly the way wanted. She was able to use the same style as in her previous films, including 360-degree shots and working with the same camera as in Nomadland, which Zhao had to complete side-o- side with the Eternals. Zhao felt she was lucky that Marvel is willing to take a chance and do something different. Zhao cited The Revenant 2015 as an inspiration when she composed the films scenes
